Nadroga rests easy tonight after they managed to hold on to the Farebrother Sullivan Cup despite the threat from Northland in the second challenge game that ended in a 12-all draw at Lawaqa Park this afternoon.
Northland gave Nadroga the biggest scare of their Farebrother defence with a strong second half surge but the rules of the game states if the game ends in a draw, the holders retain the coveted silverware.
Nadroga scored the only two tries of the game in the first half to lead 12-6 at halftime. Northland managed two penalty kicks to Josevata Bola.
The visitors despite faced with a serious of injuries to their squad days before the game came out strongly in the second half to dominate possession and scare their hosts.
Bola kicked a penalty in the 45th minute to minimize Nadroga’s lead and equalized for their 12 points in the 54th minute.
“Northland was a strong challenge from the first whistle. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy,” Nadroga manager, Paula Biu said.
“They gave us a real good run and allowed us to see which areas we really need to improve on before our next challenge next week.”
Nadroga faces Suva next week and they will need to do a lot of damage control before they come face to face against the star-studded Highlanders team.
