Take the game to the Welsh: Tanivula March 19, 2010
Fiji 7s coach Iliesa Tanivula is demanding nothing but the best from his team, stressing to them the importance of setting a good platform for the Adelaide 7s in their opening match against Wales tonight.
Fiji faces Wales first, then Waisale Serevi’s Papua New Guinea side and Kenya tomorrow.
Tanivula and his men have made up their minds they want to win the Adelaide 7s.
“We refuse to take any match lightly,” Tanivula said.
“Wales are the world champions so facing them first will be tough for us.
They haven’t had a good Series so far, I know they too are looking to redeem themselves in Adelaide this weekend.”
Tanivula has told the boys to take control of the game from the first whistle and not allow their opponents any space to score.
“We need to pressure them from the start and maintain that. Hopefully this will force them into mistakes we can capitalize on.”
“Consistency is one big ask for the boys, I need to see them improve after every game. We need to pull up our socks when the tournament kicks off. Its not going to be easy, but I am confident the Fiji team can accomplish what we have set out to do.”
Fiji plays Wales at 9:14pm before taking on PNG at 5:29pm Saturday afternoon and Kenya at 9:56pm in their last pool game.
“We want to top our pool and see how it fares from there. The aim right now is beat Wales – the rest will follow,” Tanivula said.
