The Fiji 7s team is determined to accomplish what they failed to do at the second leg of the 2009/10 IRB World 7s Series when they jet off to Australia on Monday.
The Emosi Vucago-led side are aiming for a back to back win for Fiji – win the Adelaide 7s and successfully defend the Hong Kong 7s.
“It is not impossible, that’s our motivation,” Vucago said.
“We met as a team, without the coach and manager and we agreed that we want to win both at Adelaide and Hong Kong. We talked about our weaknesses as individuals and what we can do to help each other on and off the field and we also discussed our weakness as a team.”
“We have a very strong feeling about winning the third leg of the Series. We’ve let ourselves down in the last two legs. Our aim to win the third leg in Adelaide and Hong is because we need to redeem ourselves and try and boost more points on the Series table,” Vucago added.
Fiji is in pool C in Australia with Wales, PNG and Kenya in Adelaide.
“We have a tough pool playing the hosts and World champions. Kenya is a strong team that cannot be taken lightly and PNG is led by our former coach Waisale Serevi so their knowledge of the Fiji team is a big advantage for them,” Vucago said.
The team leaves for Adelaide on Monday and is expected to play two warm up games before the tournament kicks off on March 19-21.
“As the captain, I know my task is hard. I have to be constantly talking and encouraging them to believe in themselves but my job is so easy because they listen to me. I have gained the respect of my team and I will lead by example.”
The Adelaide 7s kicks off on Friday night at 8.30pm.
