In the second of our new 60 second interviews, we quiz Fiji Sevens legend Waisale Serevi, winner of two Rugby World Cup Sevens and a World Series title with Fiji, and now coach of Papua New Guinea.
Waisale, what was your first rugby experience?
Serevi: For the first time, in primary school. Later on I remember playing for Fiji for the first time in 1989 at the Hong Kong Sevens - we lost to New Zealand. I can remember I ran nearly the whole length of the field, should have scored and turned around and tried to tease a New Zealand player chasing me. I was looking back and I didn't realise there were still 10 metres to go and he caught up. And we lost the game.
Your first match?
Serevi: In primary school in the Suva competition.
When did you know that rugby was what you wanted to do?
Serevi: After school in 1984, I was not doing well in school. I failed my Fiji junior school certificate and I thought that school wasn't good for me.. So I turned to rugby.
