Nabuliwaqa, Ryder back in 7s team November 19, 2009
Twinkle toes William Ryder and Lepani Nabuliwaqa will make their comeback into the 7s circuit after they were named in Fiji’s team to the opening leg of the 2009/10 IRB World 7s Series to Dubai and George.
The duo had been left out of Tanivula’s team most of last season but the former Auckland Blues player believes they are now ready to earn their stripes back for their country.
“One of the major reasons why they were left out last season was more disciplinary then anything. But they have learnt their lesson, they really want to prove themselves again,” Tanivula said.
“William and Leps have been really working hard. They have done the hard yards just like all the other players, I have seen commitment and dedication from them and that is why they have been rewarded with being included in the first leg team.”
Tanivula said they had come in with the right attitude and he had seen a lot of changes in the both of them.
“They’ve really humbled themselves, it’s not about experience or how great of a player you are to be in a team – it’s what you bring to selection and training everyday.”
“They deserve this second chance and I hope for their part that they will take advantage of this and prove themselves. Fiji loves these two players, they bring a lot to the team and I am happy to get them back,” Tanivula said.
Also named in the team for the Dubai and George 7s are Seremaia Burotu, Emosi Vucago, Pio Tuwai and Nadi rep Vima Tuidraki.
Vucago has been named captain and he will be assisted by Burotu.
“The goal for this leg is really to just do our best. I know these boys have it them to win because of what I have seen them bring to training.”
