Young Fiji 7s player Peni Rokodiva will not be considered for the 2009/2010 IRB World 7s Series says Fiji 7s coach Iliesa Tanivula.
Rokodiva who skippered the Davetalavu 7s team to the recent Malaysia and Singapore 7s injured his knee in the tournaments and has been ruled out for more then seven months.
The former Lelean Memorial School student was not included in the first leg team to Dubai and George that was named today and he was also not included in the contracted players list that Tanivula will use for this season.
“We had a sit down with Peni and had a long talk about his future with the Fiji 7s team. Because of his injuries and the length of time he has to recover, he has been pulled out of contention for a spot in the team,” Tanivula said.
Rokodiva’s recovery period is between six to eight months.
“We could put him in the contracted player list but then what’s the use when he’s going to be out on recovery for that long. We’ve decided to give his spot to someone else and hope that in the future he can recover fast and join the team again.”
Tanivula said Rokodiva had understood and had wished the 7s team all the best in their campaign.
“He’s a good player, really strong and talented. He’s got a lot of years ahead of him so I am hoping he is not discouraged by this. Knowing Peni, I know he is going to push himself and try to beat his recovery time and get back into the team,” Tanivula said.
