Flying Fijians head coach to the Northern hemisphere, Glen Ella is confident of Fiji’s chances against Scotland, Ireland and Romania in their three tests this month.
The former Wallaby who has handed the head coach’s position from Sam Domoni for this tour only said he was excited about his first assignment as Fiji coach.
“I am full of confidence because of the range of talent this team has,” Ella said this afternoon from their Suva camp before they departed to Nadi.
“I have gotten to know most of the local players and they have impressed me with their improvements day in day out.”
“I am pretty confident about this tour; I can promise that we will do our utmost best. We have an good team, the quality of these players are pretty high and the only thing that’s left to do now is to mould them together but we do that once we meet up with the overseas players,” Ella said.
The 11 local-based players with the officials depart for the UK on tomorrow from Nadi. The will meet up with the overseas-based reps on Monday.
“Right now my priority is getting the team together. I have been with the local boys all this time but Mike Brewer has been giving me positive feedbacks on the players from there.
These are professional players and getting a winning combination in less than 10 days is all part and parcel of the game. I am confident of whatever obstacle that lies in our path.”
Fiji plays the first Test against Scotland on November 14 at Murrayfield, Edinburgh. The side faces Ireland a week later on November 21 at Royal Dublin Society Grounds.
“Its an honor to coach Fiji, just like the players I represent the country even though I am not from here but Fiji has always held a special place in my heart,” Ella said.
The three-match tour concludes with their last test against Romania on November 28.
