Fiji 7s coach Iliesa Tanivula has admitted he is finding it difficult to name the team to the first leg of the 2009/10 IRB World 7s Series in Dubai and George on December.
The former Auckland Blues player believes this years 7s squad will be the best prepared team to any IRB Series outing – having undergone three weeks of camp, with another four weeks of camp coming up.
“We have more then 30 players in the squad, all of whom are talented and dedicated. There is no one left out when I say, this is a good bunch,” he said.
“I have been assessing each player and their progress throughout the camps and their dedication and passion to seal a spot in the first leg team has blown me away. Really its going to be so difficult having to choose because of the improvements I have seen week in week out.”
In the first two weeks of camp, Tanivula focused on high intensity training to get the boys in shape, emphasizing on fitness. Last week in their third week of camp, Tanivula allowed for recovery before they gear up next week for game mode. The Fiji 7s squad is expected to field a team in next weekends Suva 7s.
“I want to be fair on the boys, they really are all dedicated to their training. I have heard good feedbacks from their families who tell me they keep to their training programmes even when we break camp.”
Tanivula will name his 15-member team to the Dubai and George 7s when the Fiji Barbarians return next week from the Singapore/Malaysia 7s.
“Soon, the team will be announced soon. All I can say that whichever players will be chosen, I can proudly say that they will do Fiji proud because of the hard work they have put across in their preparation.”
The Dubai 7s kicks off on December 4 and the George 7s in South Africa a week later.
