Army confident of ending four-year drought October 28, 2009
The Army rugby side is confident of winning the prestigious Sukuna Bowl when they meet Police on Friday afternoon at the TFL Stadium in Suva.
The side, after losing four times consecutively to Police, has bought in several national reps to boost their campaign. Dale Tonawai, Alefoso Yalayalatabua, Sireli Ledua, Leone Nakarawa, Waqabaca Kotobalavu, Jolame Bera, Iveri Lavo, Iliavi Satala, Manu Gade, Josefa Levula are just some names that will be bolster the green machine on Friday.
“The game on Friday is going to be a war and in war there is no substitute for victory,” Navy Commander and team manager Francis Kean said.
“We are now in the final touches of our preparation. Everyone is full of confidence for Friday’s results.”
The Army who has yet to taste victory since 2004 played a warm up game against the Flying Fijians last week.
“That game is history now, we took the good points from there and we’re moving on. We’re not concentrating on one area of our game or just some but all areas,” Kean added.
“Not all of the national reps are in the starting lineup, they have put in the reserve bench - the team we will field will be full of young reps but with a good mix of experienced boys. We have no injuries and the support from the families have been tremendous. We will go out to play on Friday full of confidence in our performance.”
By comparison, the Police team has maintained a low profile as the head into this much anticipated encounter. Team officials refused to comment on the team’s whereabouts and preparations saying they would do their talking on the field.
The Sukuna Bowl kicks off at 4pm at the TFL Stadium on Friday.
