Undefeated Lautoka rushes player to hospital
July 04, 2009

Lautoka maintained its winning streak in Fiji rugby’s annual Digicel Cupafter thrashing minnows Tavua 50-13 at Churchill Park this afternoon.

But not after one of their players was rushed to hospital.

Iliesa Tora had to be stretchered out of the field when he was unconscious for several minutes after a poor landing from contesting the ball at the lineout.

“We just heard from the hospital and Iliesa will be admitted tonight. The doctor wants to keep him in for observation and other necessary tests,” Lautoka manager Ratu Jone Seru said.

The score line might have suggested an easy game for home team Seru said the game was one of the toughest they played this season.

“The boys really felt the tackles today,” he said.

Lautoka ran in eight tries, five managed to be converted Rusiate Rokotavu.

Try scorers went to Timoci Vuadreu who crossed the touched twice with one each to Mikaele Ratuvou, Sekove Sariki, Vatimi Kenatale, Rusi Rokotavu, Watisoni Votu and Ravai Meli.

Lautoka is now the only team to have qualified for the semi final after eight rounds and three more games remaining.

In other games, defending Digicel Cup champions Nadi lost to Nadroga 8-16 while Tailevu edged Rewa 8-7 and Ovalau beat Navosa 18-5.

Naitasiri made an amazing comeback from losing at halftime to Suva 5-12 to bag the win 22-19 at Ratu Cakobau Park. Northland beat Namosi 22-10.

Round 8 Results:

Tavua 13-50 Lautoka (HT: 6-36); Nadi 8-16 Nadroga (HT: 3-10); Rewa 7-8 Tailevu (HT: 0-5); Ovalau 18-5 Navosa (HT: 11-5); Northland 22-10 Namosi (HT: 7-0); Naitasiri 22-19 Suva (HT: 5-12)
