Fiji Football rejects new head coach
May 03, 2009

Newly-appointed Fiji soccer coach Anand Sami is no longer wanted by the Fiji Football Association as the parent body cannot meet his demands.

Sami, who was appointed by the Fiji FA Board of Control last month in Suva to replace Uruguayan Juan Carlos Buzzetti, was expected to fly into the country late last month.

Fiji FA president Dr M.S.Sahu Khan confirmed to Fijilive that Sami will not be hired as his demands are too much for Fiji FA to meet.

“He is not coming at all as the head coach of Fiji as his demands are excessive,” said Khan.

“He wants Fiji FA to pay all his taxes and this is not acceptable to us.

“I personally spoke to him and informed him that we will pay his taxes to some extent but not fully.

“He did not agree to this so we have decided not to hire him. We have appointed our development head Saiyad Ali as the acting national coach.”

Dr Sahu Khan added that Buzzetti will remain with Fiji soccer until his contract expires at the end of this month.

Buzzetti and former development head Farouk Janeman were terminated from their coaching jobs following the meeting of the Fiji FA council in Nadi earlier this season.

First of all Sahu Khan comes to Australia talks to Sami and agrees with whatever condition Sami puts to him and later on here decides it's too much for Fiji FA to pay.

I don't care who the man is. You are paid so you pay your own taxes. This is just silly where people ask their employer to pay the taxes.

Anand, are you in for the money or the love for the game or for your country? For your and Fiji FA's information, the best coach in South America at the moment (a continent that that has won many many World Cups) is Marcelo Bielsa, currently coach of Chile. He is not doing it for his country as he is Argentinian and certainly not for the money as he was not paid for the last 18 ... I repeat 18 months. Food for thought for all you guys who want to coach the national team.

Bullocks, same old, same old, what was "white' man on. Under FOI, can this be disclosed and then come out and criticise one of the country's quiet achievers who is just trying to get the equivalent maybe? Go on hire a foreigner and adhere to his every inch of demand. Interesting candidates will now surface, watch this space. "What doesnt kill ya, makes u stronger" ... RS9889

It would be a good idea to compare what Anand was offered and what the former coach was getting. Change your colour Anand and Fiji FA will give in to your demand.

Hopefully this time FijiFA appoints a better coach. And to Sami, we pay our own taxes and so should you.
