Fijians start on a high in George December 05, 2008
Fiji started its George 7s campaign in South Africa this evening with a well earned 31-0 win over Scotland in the opening game of the tournament.
Tries to Vereniki Goneva, Etonia Naba and Seremaia Barotu in the first spell and one each to Iliesa Ratuva and Osea Kolinisau was enough see the Fijians coast to a convincing win.
Waisale Serevi’s men proved too strong for the Scots as they strung a number of well-worked inter passing, a much better showing from last week which saw the three forwards scoring long range tries.
Fiji led Scotland 21-0 at the breather and the instructions from the maestro at the break was for the forwards to keep running their lines and spread the ball out to the flanks to give the backs enough room to move.
“Defence has been good, but we need to keep spreading the ball out wide with the forwards running your lines well,” Serevi barked at the break.
Playmaker Lepani Nabuliwaqa kicked all conversions.
Fiji faces Zimbabwe in its second pool game later tonight.
