Korovou celebrates Northland title win
October 07, 2008

The Northland Rugby Union has come off age bringing the small township of Korovou to a standstill as thousands gathered to celebrate their Farebrother Sullivan Trophy win over neighbours Tailevu last week.

Tears rolled freely as bystanders watched students of Namalata District School, Korovou Primary and Tailevu North College lead the march along with the Northland Rugby team and the coveted Farebrother Trophy through the main street this afternoon.

It was a proud moment for the people of Tailevu North as they witnessed skipper Lote Leva hoisting the trophy high as the team marched through town.
chief Ratu Savenaca Ravoka.

A traditional ceremony awaited the victorious ruggers at the Tailevu North College, an institution where Leva and some of his colleagues started their rugby career.
Leva’s former coach and TNC teacher Pita Vedewaqa said the feat was a proud day for Tailevu North rugby.

“We are proud to be part of the team because it has brought everyone together,” he added.

“Leva and some members of the team were former students of Tailevu North so if they can prove to win Fiji’s best rugby prize, what about the rest of untapped talents that we have here.”

Leva was emotional through the possession saying six long years of hard work has paid off.

“I thank the people and the chiefs because without them we cannot win. This is history but we have brought everyone together,” the former TNC rugby league player added.

The celebration ended with a small feast before the team retreated for training to prepare against Naitasiri in their first defence on Saturday.
