Serevi plots impact move on world stage
October 07, 2008

Fiji 7s coach Waisale Serevi wants to make an impact return to the International Rugby Board World 7s Series.

To date, he is the only Fiji 7s coach to ever win the annual tourney.

He is back with a bang and to achieve that, oppositions will have to read the maestro’s mind to stop Fiji.

Serevi is assembling is first hit squad to tour Australia and test the platform that he will compete on come the IRB 7s Series opener in Dubai and George.

He announced that there would be a lot of changes in the Fiji armour to surprise rivals like New Zealand.

“Everyone in the series knows Fiji’s style and strength so I have to be smart to beat everyone,” he said after a mid-morning run in Suva to prepare for the invitational Brisbane 7s in Australia this weekend.

The Fiji Warriors 7s team will compete among Fijians in Australia during the Fiji Day celebrations tournament ‘Down Under.’

The aging maestro will name positional changes as he hunts for specialists to the forthcoming series.

“We need a specialist flyhalf, so in the absence of William Ryder who might join us later, we have Emosi Vucago and Lepani Nabuliwaqa while Peni Rokodiva Junior will be tried at halfback,” Serevi added.

“Rokodiva is young, elusive, and strong in attack and defence and an unknown quantity. Emosi had been playing flyhalf and an experienced player with leadership skills. Nabuliwaqa is a very good utility player and we will use them on these positions in Brisbane,” he added.

The team will have their last run this afternoon before departing on Thursday.

“We need to train hard and improve from where we left off last year because the IRB 7s Series is a different ball game.

Isei Lewaqai and Vereniki Goneva joined the squad this morning at their camp at the Police Academy in Nasova. Suva.
