Tigers keen on having Caucau on board September 04, 2008
England based premier rugby club, the Leicster Tigers is keen on signing Fijian speed sensation Rupeni Caucau and they will not give up despite him failing to show up to a scheduled meeting last week.
Caucau was said to be making his way to the United Kingdom to hold talks with Tigers officials but did not turn up.
This has not deterred the Tigers camp who is desperate to secure a wing, a good wing for the season.
"He is potentially a world-class player. You don't give up easily on that sort of player." Simon Cohen, Tigers director of operations told the Leicester Mercury.
"We are not interested in signing wingers because the guys here are not good enough. It's because we are a bit thin in that position."
Twenty eight year-old Caucau has had a controversial career since he made a name for himself in 2003. He is had a reputation for not turning up and failing to meet club commitments.
He served a 12 months in 2005 after failing to appear at several internationals for the Flying Fijians.
"The situation with Caucau is that if he gets himself over here and impresses Heyneke (Meyer, Tigers head coach) with his willingness to train and play under our structures and regime, at that stage we will sit down and talk about the possibility of a contract."
"Any player who joins Leicester, it's important he fits into the culture,” Heyneke added.
Tigers are one of several overseas clubs eyeing the Bua flyer, Waratahs, Western Province and some top French clubs are hopeful of signing Caucau.
