The Fiji Under-19 team knows Tahiti will not be a pushover when they meet in their second clash of the FORU tournament this weekend.
Fiji recorded their first win a fearless performance against Samoa yesterday 16-14 at Prince Charles Park while Tahiti lost to Papua New Guinea (0-83).
The Iosefo Bele coached side may be the favorites in the tournament but they refuse to get too carried away.
“On paper Fiji proves to be the best team and the boys proved that yesterday against Samoa,” Bele said.
“But we cannot get too carried away with that – it’s a tournament and rugby is ever unpredictable. One can’t crown themselves champions until the very last game.”
One thing Bele and his group of officials will need to work on before Saturdays encounter is a good finish – a battling area for any Fijian team.
“In the second half it was scrappy. We made too many mistakes. The boys seemed tired. They were kicking the ball unnecessarily,” he said.
“We need to maintain focus from the word go till the very last whistle - always alert and never too sure of a win if we lead.”
Kiniviliame Murimurivalu of Queen Victoria School has sounded a battle cry, telling his team to win Fiji the tournament.
“Fiji hasn’t bought a trophy back in sevens and fifteens. We want to be the first to open up a river of victories to come for our country,” he added.
Fiji takes on Tahiti at 10am before the PNG versus Vanuatu game at midday and the final game between Samoa and Tonga at 2pm at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
