Waisale Serevi’s confirmation as the Fiji 7s coach might not be known soon with the Fiji Rugby Union seeking another meeting with the greatest 7s player of all time to finalise his contract.
The FRU after allowing Serevi to play rugby league in England this week will sit with maestro to air possibilities of changes to the contract offered to him three weeks ago.
“The FRU board met Wednesday night to discuss issues surrounding the delay in the official signing of Waisele Serevi as coach for the Digicel Fiji 7s team to the upcoming IRB 7s 2008/09 Series,” FRU chief executive officer Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua said.
“The board has unanimously agreed that a meeting will be set up with Serevi upon his return from England.”
“Serevi raised some issues in relation to the offer we had presented him and the board has decided we discuss it with him when we meet.”
It is understood that Serevi is not happy with conditions provided in the contract offer especially with his intention to work as a coach and player.
Serevi is also after a ‘free-hand’ condition in the top job where he could get whole hearted support from the FRU similar to those enjoyed by executives in the 15s code.
He also wants to have a say in the selection of the new 7s team manager.
It is also believed that Serevi is not happy with the contract’s monetary offer.
The contract demands Serevi to win the next IRB 7s Series after the winless outing last season under Josateki Savou and Opetaia Ravai.
He is also required to successfully defend the IRB 7s World Cup in Dubai next March.
Serevi is expected to return from England on the weekend.
Tavanavanua said the FRU will also name the new 7s manager soon.
Fijilive understands that former Fiji soccer captain Maretino Nemani and former ATS boss Alifereti Malo are in the running for the top post.

It doesnt mean that just by having Serevi back as the national coach, it is not guaranted that the Fiji 7's team wil be able to win the next IRB Sevens title. It is not the coach that is on the field, it is the players that are on the field. So it is up to the players to do thier best and win. So instead of demanding Serevi to win the title the F.R.U. should be asking their players to win. So please F.R. U do not burst this winning chance of Fiji.

Doc Sirevi...please abide by the contract contents and sign for Fiji. If you still don't sign, then as far as the FRU is concerned...the post is still vacant. And don't be surprised if
somebody else is appointed, surely
could be PV...1st mission, defending the Melrose cup.
