Rugby bosses irate over 7s signing delay August 26, 2008
All is not well within Fiji Rugby Union because Waisale Serevi has still yet to sign on almost four weeks after receiving his offer letter as head coach of the Digicel Fiji 7s team .
FRU bosses, chairman Keni Dakuidreketi and president Ro Filipe Tuisowau are fuming over the delay in the official appointment of Serevi as Fiji 7s coach to the new international 7s season.
Almost a month after Serevi was given his offer letter, the Maestro is yet to put pen to paper to become Fiji’s official mentor to the defence of the Melrose 7s World Cup in Dubai next March and the 2008-09 IRB 7s World Series.
Dakuidreketi said he would demand answers from his chief executive officer Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua on the reasons behind the delay.
“I know that Serevi has accepted the offer letter but what I will ask tomorrow is why the delay,” Dakuidreketi said
“They have to act quickly because the season is approaching. I want to know why it is taking too long to come to an agreement,” he said from Nadi today.
Ro Filipe, who earlier revealed that he was not informed about Serevi’s appointment, will also demand for answers when the ruling heads of Fiji Rugby meet tomorrow night.
Fijilive has been reliably informed that Serevi had applied for changes to clauses within his contract looking for options where he could play during the course of the IRB 7s Series and the 7s RWC.
Serevi said this would allow make his job easier because he would be leading by example like he did in the final of the 2005 World 7s Cup against England when he scored the winner seconds from fulltime.
Fiji lacked on the field leadership last season resulting in the record winless streak.
It is also believed that conditions offered were not as expected with differences in perks compared to the last time Serevi was coach.
He has been offered a two year stint which is only six months in the rugby season ahead.
Serevi is also asking for a free hand in preparations meaning that he will get all support and technical help as enjoyed by management in the 15s code.
Serevi is away in England on an invitational rugby league tournament also with the blessing of the FRU which has allowed him to play in a rival code.

Investigate the CEO, forget the so
much fancied Doc, give it to the aggressor PV...the problem with the Doc is that he does not trust no one to lead on the field accept
himself. Infact a couple of players have proven themselves to lead on the field Naevo, Volavola have proven themselves on that role. If the Doc cannot lead from the sideline as a coach then give PV a chance to prove himself since
he has been barking a lot, when JS
was coaching last season. The Doc has lost his 'flair' that he use to have during his prime time, FRU
stick to the contract given to the
Doc but the 'welfare' of the players need to be well looked after ie pay wise, talking about good pay check, when that has been
taken cared off, you will see a change this approaching season... probably the 'Melrose Cup' will stay for another 4 years...au kaya!
