The Fiji Rugby Union scored another milestone this week after former Auckland Blues and ACT Brumbies Coach David Nucifora announced his availability to help out with the Flying Fijians.
Nucifora who now heads the Australian Rugby Union High Performance Unit will be working with the Fiji Rugby Union in an exchange program through the Australian Rugby Union.
This was revealed by Flying Fijians coach Ilivasi Tabua after their 13-50 loss at the hands of the Australia A in Brisbane last weekend.
“We met in Brisbane and he is willing to help us with an exchange program like technical assistance where coaches, referees and players will go to Australia for attachments and clinics. This is all for development which will help us in the long run,” Tabua said
“He said Fiji would soon become a force to reckon in international rugby,”
“We have a long way to go on and off the field. We do not have the resources and the finance to match Tier One nations but for Australia to offer assistance technically, it would help enhance our dream to be a marketable rugby product. Our rugby will benefit if Australia helps us.”
Meanwhile, the Fiji team arrived in Tonga mid-morning today after transiting through Nadi from Australia.
Tabua named new inclusions into his side against the Ikale Tahis in Nuku’alofa this weekend to counter the injury toll after three rounds of the 2008 Pacific Nations Cup.
Fiji is on third spot behind Australia A and the New Zealand Maoris in the standings.
