FRU narrows search for 15s naming rights May 13, 2008
The Fiji Rugby Union will pick one of two local companies to be awarded naming rights for the Flying Fijians team sometime in the next two weeks.
Chief executive Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua confirmed they were in the final stages of confirming the official sponsor of the Fiji 15s team.
Out of the five that drew in interest for the naming rights of the Flying Fijians, two local companies were now being looked at by FRU, Ratu Timoci said,
“We should receive a reply from them with the next week or two,” he added.
The tenders had been handed a FRU prospectus and each company made their presentation to the FRU board, with the final decision yet to be made.
Ratu Timoci declined to reveal the names of the short-listed firms, saying it wouldn’t be appropriate to release at this stage.
Flour Mills of Fiji held the naming rights for the Flying Fijians until recently, following the Rugby World Cup in France last year.
Prior to FMF, the naming rights belonged to Vodafone Fiji. The company pulled out when the FRU demanded $1m a year.
