The Fiji Under-20 rugby team will not settle less than a war against England when they meet in the IRB Junior World Championship in Wales next month.
Fiji coach Rayne Simpson has kept his cards close to his chest to prevent any sneak preview of Fiji’s assault plan against one of the Tier One nations of the competition.
“We are confident that we will be competitive but we are not giving our game plans out,” the Savusavu-born rugby coach said.
“Of course there will be the fiery Fijian style full of open and bone-crunching defence but Tier One nations are hard to beat so we will just (have to) prepare well,” he added.
Simpson and his band of coaches, including former national prop Epeli Naituivau, former Fiji 7s team manager Malakai Finau and former England front rower Trevor Woodman, started the final two weeks of training at Bidesi Park in Suva yesterday.
They depart for Australia next week for two build-up matches in Australia.
“We are ready. We have our tactics and all the areas had been covered.
We have three warm-up matches starting with Tonga this week where we will name the final team. There’s Australia and a colts game in Australia, after that I am confident that we would be competitive with Tier One nations.”
He said England would be tough to match but Fiji would be firing from all angles to score an upset.
