Fiji 7s coach Josateki Savou is on the road again for his last assault on the ongoing IRB World 7s Series.
The former national 7s rep-cum coach after taking over the reins from 7s wizard Waisale Serevi last season, has a message to Fiji 7s ruggers before Fiji prepares for the World 7s Cup next Dubai.
Savou said discipline was an internal foe to Fiji 7s success.
“It happens and players involved know it. There is no use to talk about it because it often ends on a personal note,” he added.
Discipline on and off the field has a been a contributing factor to Fiji’s losses so far this season. Even the star-studded Fiji team to this year’s Hong Kong 7s could not resurrect and regain the lost pride that Fiji lost when it fell from 7s grace last year.
Fiji Live gathered that an overseas-based player was sternly warned by a teammate during the HK 7s to improve his performance.
The same player was reported to have been consuming alcohol in Fiji even hours before the Fiji team selection to the annual tourney.
He is out of the London 7s squad but his high profile status helped him win a ticket to HK but when the tough gets going the protégé of the best rugby 7s player in the world buckled under pressure and lost his magical touch.
“Players know themselves. They have to be honest because this is a team. Every player’s contribution counts. We are not dropping players for nothing. Discipline is among them and I call on everyone to think about the team and the country when they are called for national duties.”
Savou said new players would be blended into the Fiji team in the lead up to Dubai.
He will name his 12-member team on Wednesday after a meeting with Fiji Rugby Union.
