New Zealand-based Henry Speight joins the Fiji Under-20 rugby team in preparation for the Junior World Championship in Wales next month.
Coach Rayne Simpson shifted preparation gear to another notch saying the coming two weeks is vital in Fiji’s game plan in the world tourney.
“This is the absolute two weeks to our preparation, everything matters because this is the final phase of preparation,” he added.
“This is the end of training for us but we have to set everything in perfect place and ensure that we make a successful assault.”
Simpson also had a tough road in his preparation, but a decision made months ago paid dividend days before they depart for Wales.
“We maintained our 33-member squad until the final week. We will select our team this weekend after a build-up match with Tonga at the National Stadium and I am glad that we maintained our squad.”
Simpson ran his team yesterday at Bidesi Park in Suva happy that after Jerry Tagicakibau’s withdrawal, New Zealand-based Henry Speight is flying in tomorrow to boost the Fijians.
“I am keeping fingers crossed because he is undergoing immigration clearance. He is expected to join us on Tuesday (tomorrow) and I am confident that we will do well.”
Fiji will have three build-up matches before facing England in its first World Championship match.
They play Tonga this weekend, Australia next week and Greg Mumm’s Northern Suburb colts in Australia.
