Fiji rugby coach Ilivasi Tabua returns from Australia next Wednesday hungry for answers on Fiji’s downfall in the current Pacific Rugby Cup Series.
The former Fiji and Australian rugby rep said he would meet his PRC coaches and administrators to thrash out Fiji’s lacklustre performance in the IRB annually-funded tournament.
This is after the Air Pacific-sponsored Fiji Warriors and Fiji Barbarians team were bundled out of the tournament after losing to their Tongan counterparts Tau’ta Reds and the Tau’tahi Gold respectively on Friday evening.
The Babaas were thrashed 0-20 while the Reds’ 23-16 victory was too hot for the Warriors to swallow.
Tabua will seek for answers before any head is placed under the guillotine.
“I am not happy,” he said from Sydney this morning.
“We aimed for better results but rugby is an unpredictable game. The results are against us but we have to sit down and look at our performance,” he added.
Tabua ruled out the threat of job loss for coaches concerned.
“We will meet the coaches and everyone involved. One thing that the people of Fiji should bear in mind is that we have limited coaches available who are certified and qualified to coach top level competition,” he said.
“We only have six top coaches and they are the people we are using.
“We will reassess out situation, see where we go wrong, look at our resources and plan where we can improve. We wanted a strong platform but we are fortunate that some new rugby talents were exposed in the series despite the results.” he added.
Tabua is also in Australia scouting for more expat administrators and Australia-based players before returning next Wednesday.
