| Knights book first ever Colonial Cup final March 29, 2008
The Knights have booked their first Colonial Cup final berth since the inception of the competition five years ago when then defeated a strong Highlanders outfit 24-16 at Ratu Cakobau Park this afternoon. The Knights will host the Crusaders at the same venue next weekend in the final of the competition. It was a tit for tat battle from the start when the hosts took an early 7-0 lead after a questionable forward pass found in-form winger Timoci Naqusa who sprinted away to touchdown under the sticks. James Vuli found no difficulty in converting the try from upfront and the Knights were on a high. But the Highlanders started to settle in the game and a series of attacks on the Knights armour created holes and saw Highlanders first five Saiasi Fuli anticipate a Mosese Luveitasau chip, re-gather and pass to score under the posts for the 10-7 lead thanks to an earlier Beni Soso penalty and successful conversion. Knights captain Senirusi Seruvakula was full of praise for his team saying that they fought to a deserved win over their opponents. “We talked about the final at training this week and we wanted to play this semi-finals with all our strength, I thank the boys for the effort that they showed today, we will now be playing our first final since the start of this position five years ago,” he said His opposite Daniele Baleinadogo said his team gave it their all but poor options let them down adding that they lost to a better team.
