Caucau is a better option: Tanivula
September 24, 2007

Nadi coach and former international rep, Iliesa Tanivula believes Bua flyer, Rupeni Caucau should have been a better replacement for Filimoni Bolavucu.

Bolavucu injured his ankle in a training run and has not featured in any of the FMF Flying Fijians games in the Rugby World Cup.

“You can’t question Bobo’s speed, he is good. He brings with him a lot of experience and understands that level of competition. But in regards to defence, I think Caucau was the better option,” Tanivula said.

“Caucau has the edge to attack and defend while running with the ball. He has what it takes for Wales I think-the most important game for Fiji right now.”

Fiji’s chance in featuring in the quarterfinals depends entirely on the result against the Welsh this Sunday. Tabua fielded a second string outfit against the Wallabies this morning, where they recorded their first loss in the tournament 12-55.

“Bobo is talented, he has what it takes but for a game like this, we need someone who can carry out the job and not leave the job unfinished.”

“But then again it’s the coaches and officials’ decision. At the end of the day theirs is the only one that matters.’

Tanivula hoped Flying Fijians coach, Ilivasi Tabua’s plan to rest his elite for Wales is the best option for Fiji.

“We fail to play 80 minutes of rugby-that has always been an issue for us. Even in our first two games despite carrying off the win, they died out towards the end. If Fiji wants the win, they need to put all they’ve got against Wales and that means staying awake.”

“Lets hope and pray that the rest did them good. Knowing Ili, I am certain he has something up his sleeve. You haven’t seen the best yet,” he added.

The game against Wales will be on Sunday.

My advise to the reporter who wrote the above story is to do 'your own homework'first. Iliesa Tanivula is not a former International eventhough he played for both Brumbies and Blues in the then Super 12 Competition.

Ili made the right option and made the right choice by drafting in Bobo for Bolavucu and he did make an impact against Wales.

to say in the rugby arena caucau is the best but to dicipline wise he is the worst so to be a good rugby player we need both in him.

caucau is the best...how can they say that we have the best available players...when a bunch of talented players are at home....common look at the aussies...lote tuqiri has been in trouble but they let him play, because they know what an impact it would make...people make mistakes but in the end it will be us who will lose...
