Caucau trains secretly ahead of departure September 18, 2007
Fijian speed sensation Rupeni Caucaunibuca has been training secretly at the Sigatoka sand dunes for the past week as he prepares for his long penned departure for France sometime this week.
Caucau is expected to join his French club Agen for the 2007-08 season and perhaps, more importantly, will be available for Fiji should the Flying Fijians need his services after completing his three-month drug ban, which ended last week.
A source close to the flyer has revealed that the 26 year old Bua native left his village last Wednesday with his manager Glen Zubritsky and a personal fitness trainer to take on the infamous sand dunes.
Speaking on condition of anonymity the cousin from his Naivakasiga village in Bua confirmed to Fijilive.com that Zubritsky and the trainer had been at the village for a little over a week where they conducted training drills on the star winger before departing for Sigatoka last Wednesday.
“They have taken him to Sigatoka where he will train before coming back to the village and finally leave for France, maybe sometime this week,” the cousin said
Flying Fijians squad member and Nadroga Rugby skipper Tiko Matawalu confirmed meeting Caucau in Sigatoka last week at the Lawaqa fitness center where he had been training.
“We had met briefly and he was with his manager and a trainer, I had heard that he was in town the whole week but did not meet him until towards the end of the week,” Matawalu said
Matawalu is the elder brother of impressive Flying Fijians open side flanker Akapusi Qera.
He told me he had been training at the sand dunes coupled with a few sessions at the gym,” adds the tight head prop.
“He was staying at Vula Maimuri’s house here in Sigatoka and said he would be leaving for France on the 18th of this month, which is today.”
While Caucau is billed to reinforce his French club Agen this weekend in the French premier competition, fans have called for his services in the Flying Fijians outfit after some dismal outings by the current crop of wingers in the RWC squad.
Efforts to get a comment from Maimuri’s parents, who hosted the Flying Fijian, proved futile as their home line remained unanswered.

for caucau he is proud of himself 2 represent his country.the decision for him to play wales is up to the selectors.from my point of view doing his own training is fine, to get himself bck where he was b4.the ?is he fit enough?wot wil the rest of the player said if join straight in n ply for fiji n wales?rugby is getin pro now.we also got some gud players in the team who want to show their talents.for them playin in the WC is history.so ladies n gents lets hold hand together n support our team.let Tabua 2 make a decision.each n 1 of us dont know the pressure he is facing n this is the first time for this job.all the best to the fiji team

it funy how some people still don't get it..... i bet all of us in fiji are not chering for our team fully because we know we have good players who we can be utilized and make a change. I'm sure that if we put Soqeta at # 8, Naqelevuki at # 13 and Caucau and bolavucu at #11 and 14, this team can reach the semi or even the final, this is reality. We don't need to just fill the gaps, but we need quality players who can make our cheering worth it and sponsors' money die....

caucau is not the first player to be tested positive for a drug test.if certainly he has, than this should not discourage him to represent himself for the country anymore.if god can giv many chances to people than certainly i cant assume why cant FRU giv this guy another chance as he himslef has shown commitment to play for fiji not like isa nacewa who starightly says he cant represent fiji.There are very less people like caucau who knows he is a top class player but he still willed himself for fiji who is 11th in world ranking.Think about it FRU.

Do we really need Caucau. And the only way for Caucau to be included is if one of the other players is ruled out due to injury. Thats the only way he can be called in. I dont think Tabua is going to cut a player or fake an injury to a player just to accomodate Caucau. Caucau had his chance to prove himself when the other members were training before they left. He chose not too put in the hard yards. Doesnt seem fair. Bolavucu, Dels, Ligairi, Neivua etc are up to the challenge and will give 110% everytime they play for Fiji, not just when they want to as in Caucaus case.

I am not surprise by Rups trying to come back into the national team. This team badly needs his service. If he was playing last week Fiji would rake up a dozen against Canada. No disrespect to the current wingers but if he had been there Rups would definately found the try line fit or not. The guy is phenominum and i am sure that Wales will be worrying now since the gossip of his return vibrates around the world cup. I totally understand what people are saying about him but we got to remember that this is the guy NZ wants to change the IRB laws to suit them so he could represent them on the 2003 world cup and every other teams wish he was on their side. I have a lot of respect for this guy and unlike Nacewa and Deacon Manu, he is proud to be a Fijian and wants to represent the country whenever he can. So i call on everyone to put a side individual differences and unite in the cause and lets get Rups into the team so Fiji can get into the second round of the cup.

I guess all anti-Caucau should stop criticizing him and look at the bright side. Firstly, Caucau's involvement with drugs is his personal life. I'm sure most of you work and smoke in between periods...so big deal!!! Secondly, RWC is like a war, so we need not "puftas" in the battle field and the fact is Caucau is one of our key figures that we can look to to help us win it. Please Fiji Rugby Union include Caucau because the public will appreciate your guys work if you do that..... the positives of doing this outweighs the negatives that you guys will face later. All this anti Caucau stuff is ridiculous. He made a mistake, yet is still willing to play for his country. In my book he's gets a lot more respect than the likes of rokocoko, sivivatu and tuqiri who decided to play for a rival side. The Welsh are scared of him, let him loose of the brits !
