Fiji Chess retains executives
January 28, 2012

The Fiji Chess Federation (FCF) has retained its executive members at its Annual General Meeting in Suva today.

Dr Virgilio De Asa remains as president while Calvin Prasad and Gloria Sukhu retain their vice president seats. Teiko Koroi and Goru Arvind continue in their role as secretary and assistant secretary respectively.

Arvind said the AGM was successful as they were able to discuss the federation's finances as well as finalise their calendar of events.

“Our main obstacle is sponsorship and we are doing our very best to keep the association running,” said Arvind.

“Unlike other sports, they get funding from the sports federal body but for Chess we are running on blessings."

The federation is a non-profit organisation and is only able to host and organise tournaments, thanks to assistant from members.

“We have no resources and the sponsorships are for the prizes and development,” he said.

The FCF plans to embark on a chess clinic next.
