Ba overcomes tough Tavua challenge September 05, 2010
By Reginald Chandar
Ba had to overcome a tough challenge from neighbors Tavua to record a 2-0 victory in the National Football League at Garvey Park.
The Men In Black needed a win at any cost in the fixture to remain in the race for the top spot but as expected Tavua put up a gallant show and often kept the visitors under pressure.
Right back Avinesh Swamy netted the opening goal of the match in the 35th minute through a penalty kick and Isimeli Naresia got the second a minute before halftime.
While many thought that Ba would bag in more goals, Tavua came out strongly in the second spell and dominated possession on many occassions. The Gold Miners were just too unfortunate not to get on the score-sheet as they had many scoring chances.
Ba after the win remains on second spot with 42 points and trails to leaders Lautoka by 5 points on the Fiji Sun/Weet-Bix National Football League points table. The two teams will clash in the feature match of next weekend.
