T/Naitasiri wins Viti Levu playoff
September 05, 2010

By Reginald Chandar

Former champion Tailevu Naitasiri has booked its spot in the final of the 2010 Premier League against Savusavu after beating Rakiraki 2-0 in the second leg of the Viti Levu playoff this afternoon at Ratu Cakobau Park.

The Tagi Vonolagi coached side which lost the first leg to the westerners 1-0 needed to win by two clear goals and things just worked in their favor.

Despite putting up a strong challenge, Rakiraki failed to contain the Tailevu Naitasiri attack and succumbed under pressure.

Striker Nimilote Amini scored the opening goal for the hosts in the 6th minute of play and just when it seemed the match was heading for a third leg, Ritesh Prasad sneaked in with the most decisive goal of the playoff three minutes before full time.

Vonolagi was happy after the win and said they will have to step up their preparations for the final playoff against Savusavu.

"I spent one week with the boys and tried my best to prepare them thorougly for this match and the result indeed is a relief to all of us as we needed to win by 2 clear goals,"Vonolagi said.

"Rakiraki played well but we were more focussed and goal hungry in the game so things worked well in our favor."

"For the final playoff against Savusavu, we will have to work hard as Savusavu is the defending champion and they have some former Labasa reps in their squad as well."

The winner of the Fiji Sun/Weet-Bix Premier League is expected to feature in the Promotion Relegation series but whether the series will be played this season or not will be decided in Fiji FA's next council meeting which will take place next Sunday in Suva.
