Another Flying Fijian will soon be heading to the Northern Hemisphere later this year to ply his trade in Europe.
Flying Fijian scrumhalf Vitori Buatava is taking stock of his future as he looks to tie up a lucrative contract playing for Italian side Badia in the Serie A competition.
“I’m in the final stages of finalizing a contract in Italy with Badia and have just finished a long season back here in Australia with the Gold Coast Breakers,” the 24 year-old said.
“Unfortunately the Breakers missed out on the finals but at least I have something to look forward to over in Italy.”
Buatava who made his debut for the Flying Fijians in 2007 has links to the chiefly village of Lomanikoro in Rewa through his father.
“The Fiji tour to Europe is the top of my list but I also want to play well in my first season in Italy as well as play more games in next year’s Pacific Nations Cup,” the ambitious player said.
He added he has also set his sights on making his second world cup for Fiji.
“To be part of the 2011 Rugby World Cup is the ultimate goal and while it’s not on my mind at this time, I’m trying to take each day as it comes and to make sure I’m in the best possible shape to be able to put my hand up and be counted next year for world cup selection.”
