Fiji Football Association has confirmed their participation for the 2011 Oceania Football Confederation Under-17 FIFA World Cup playoffs in New Zealand.
FFA technical Director Saiyad Ali confirmed the logistics have been taken care of and now the focus was the preparation for the playoffs.
“At the moment our first task is selecting the players. We have selected players from the Fiji Sun Weet-Bix National Youth League and in these two weeks holidays tested some players at the National Football Academy in Ba.
“The National U17 coach will be announced soon,” he sad.
“We are still in the selection process and should be able to announce a squad soon.”
Ali added participating in the U17 playoffs is a vital part of their development programme.
“Participating in this sort of competition will make our players better. This U17 team in future will become the U20 and U23 teams and they will know what to expect in a playoff.”
“This is part of Fiji FA’s plan to expose players at a young age and develop them for the senior men’s team.”
The OFC U17 playoffs are scheduled to begin January 8, 2011 in New Zealand.
