By Torika Tokalau Fiji’s javelin thrower, Leslie Copeland is meters away from qualifying for the 2012 London Olympic Games and the National Olympic Committee scholarship will boost his chances of achieving his dream.
Copeland was one of the four recipients from Fiji who was awarded the London 2012 scholarship. The scholarship includes several benefits including specialized training at high level facilities and travel expenses to participate in Olympic qualifying events.
“This was more then what I have been praying for,” Copeland said.
Copeland is knocking on the door of qualifying for his first Olympic games. This was after he fell short of only two meters of the qualifying throw last year.
“He threw 76 meters last year, only two meters short so being awarded this scholarship will help us achieve the qualification and keep getting better throws,” Albert Miller, Athletics Fiji president said.
“We are very positive that Leslie will qualify anytime now.”
