Northern Premier League set for kickoff
July 27, 2010

By Reginald Chandar

The Premier division National League for the northern division kicks off this weekend at Subrail Park.

The six premier districts have been divided in two pools with the winners and runner-ups from each pool progressing to the semifinals on Sunday.

Unlike, the southern and western division playoff, the matches in the northern division will be played on a tournament format with sixty minutes duration.

Fiji FA competitions manager Jainendra Sukhu said from the reports he has been receiving, the teams have been preparing well and the playoff should be interesting.

“We will have the playoff completed this weekend with the winner playing the winner of the Viti Levu zone.”

“The northern districts did well in the IDC last year and played the final while Savusavu is the defending National League champion so competition is expected to be tough between the six districts” he added.

Savusavu heads Pool 1 with Taveuni and Nadogo while IDC winners, Dreketi is in Pool 2 with Bua and Seaqaqa.

Below are the fixtures:

Saturday 31st July- 12pm: BIC Bua vs Puma Dreketi, 1.15pm: Kit Kat Taveuni vs Nivea Savusavu, 3pm: Sunquick Seaqaqa vs BIC Bua, 4.15pm: Royal Tea Nadogo, 6pm: Puma Dreketi vs Sunquick Seaqaqa, 7.15pm: Nivea Savusavu vs Royal Tea Nadogo.

Sunday August 1- Semifinals: 9am: Winner P1 vs R/up 2, 10.15am: Winner P2 vs R/up P1, 2pm: Final.
