The duo came out strong to win the second set 21-18 and fought hard to break the stalemate. A tough third set eventually went Fiji’s way for a well-deserved 23-21.
The Management and Coach were very proud of the pair as they managed the win despite carrying niggling injuries to the finals.
The pair dedicated the win to Fiji and all the supporters. Elliot was also named the best receiver and spiker, and the best player of the Championship.
Meanwhile Fiji Men team two of Isikeli Tuwai and Inia Koroi with the Women's team one of Mereoni Lewesi and Laisiyana Gonerogo were placed fourth after losing to New Zealand and New Caledonia respectively in the bronze playoffs.
The Fiji Men team three of Raymond Stoddart and Semisi Buadromo who were the development pair for the men, aged only 17-years of old managed to place ninth out of the 13 teams that participated.
The Oceania Games was a platform to gauge the players’ strengths and weaknesses for the upcoming Pacific Games next year.
