The Gympie Devils harness the potential to be a real threat in the Sunshine Coast rugby league competition after inducting two new recruits into the team.
Devils coach John Greensill welcomed the two players from Fiji at a training session at Jack Stokes Oval on Tuesday night.
The players include Josh Koroibulu and Ratu Viravu, who both arrived in Australia on Monday.
The addition of the Fijian players comes hot on the heels of two players from New Zealand coming across to play in Gympie’s top league outfit.
Viravu is not new to the Devils’ fold, after playing with the side for a few games last season before visa problems forced an unexpected return back home.
Greensill said it was great to have the towering Fijian back on board.
“He was outstanding last year,” Greensill said.
“He scored a few tries and helped us win some early matches, so it was a shame when he had to leave suddenly" he told the Gympie Times.
Meanwhile, Koroibulu is shaping up to be a handy utility for the Devils.
Greensill said Koroibulu was solid and would be rattling the bones of opposing teams in the front row.
“He works really hard and was impressive on the field at training,” Greensill said.
The Devils coach now believes the team has even more depth and should be considered as a “genuine” A grade contender.
The added depth is also having an immediate impact on how the Gympie boys view their place in the team.
“No one is guaranteed a position in the top side at the end of the week, so training is very intense and everyone is putting in 100 per cent,” Greensill said.
“This will translate into results and can only be good for the side.”
Still riding high after smashing Dalby last weekend in a trial game, the Devils back up this Sunday at home against the Kawana Dolphins.
