Woods prepping for possible Bay Hill return March 12, 2010
Embattled golf superstar Tiger Woods is prepping for a possible US PGA Tour return at the Arnold Palmer Invitational on March 25, the New York Post reported today.
In an article datelined from Miami, the newspaper cited "two sources in the golf community" as saying Woods was consulting Ari Fleischer, the former presidential adviser to George W. Bush, on strategy to manage his return.
Fleischer now operates Ari Fleischer Sports Communications, offering press management and media strategies for athletes, coaches, executives, teams and leagues.
The firm did not immediately respond to attempts to reach him by e-mail and telephone.
Woods took an indefinite hiatus from competitive golf in the wake of a sex scandal that engulfed him last November.
In his only public remarks since, Woods said last month that he did not know when he would return.
The Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill in Orlando -- near Woods's home -- is the only US Tour event remaining before the Masters that Woods usually includes on his schedule.
Woods has won the tournament six times, from 2000-2003 and again in 2008 and 2009.
Woods, 34, has won 14 major titles, four shy of the all-time record set by Jack Nicklaus, and this year's first three majors will be played on courses where Woods has taken record-setting triumphs.
Woods could play at Augusta National, where he has won the Masters four times, and then have a US Open at Pebble Beach, where he captured the 2000 US Open by 15 strokes, followed by a British Open at St. Andrews, where he won the event in 2000 and 2005.
Meanwhile, golfer Mark O'Meara, a friend and neighbor of Woods, told Golf Channel this week that he "wouldn't be surprised" to see Woods play the Tavistock Cup, a made-for-TV exhibition team event between PGA talent from rival exclusive clubs Isleworth and Lake Nona.
Woods has represented Isleworth in previous editions of the event which this year is set for March 22-23.
O'Meara said the event could allow Woods to "ease back into the whole situation."
