Chelsea send shrink to aid Cole recovery March 06, 2010
Chelsea boss Roman Abramovich is so worried about the mental state of their star full-back Ashley Cole that he has sent a psychiatrist to check on him in a Paris clinic where he is being treated for a broken ankle.
After Cole was uncovered as a cheat and his wife Cheryl announced that the couple were separating, the footballer has been on his phone constantly in an attempt to reconcile with the Girls Aloud popstar.
According to The Sun newspaper, Abramovich was concerned about Ashley after he received bizarre reports about his behaviour.
Sources have told the newspaper that the 29-year-old has been miserable and depressed since he arrived at the specialist clinic more than a week ago - he has even grown an unattractive beard.
Apparently, the star found out a shrink was coming to assess him and immediately shaved and trimmed his hair to make a good impression.
"He knew the results would go straight back to the top and he wanted them to be positive," the newspaper quoted a source as saying.
A spokesman for Chelsea told The Sun: "It is a very normal procedure. We have a duty of care to all our players and we regularly send members of our medical team to help them get fit, especially those undergoing long-term treatment."
Meanwhile, it has emerged that Cole is hoping to patch up things with Cheryl by offering to renew their wedding vows.
Cole told friends that he'll make things work during a 15-minute face-to-face meeting with his estranged wife next week.
"Ashley and a lot of his friends reckon Cheryl will come back," The Sun quoted a close pal as saying.
