Savou warns Fiji 7s team of overconfidence
February 09, 2010

The Fiji 7s team should be careful and not let last week’s win at the New Zealand International 7s get to them and be a stumbling block in Las Vegas , says former Fiji 7s coach Josateki Savou.

Savou said overconfidence could be the downfall of the team.

“Fiji won, we congratulate them and we’re proud of their achievement but its not the end of the Series,” he said.

The warden officer said the team should keep their head down and forget about the Wellington 7d win.

“We start all over again in every tournament, regardless of our winning record. The sevens game is very unpredictable, now especially when the level of competition is very high.”

“Any team that wins from a previous leg will be marked. Fiji has to be very careful in the pool games, they have South Africa, the defending Series champions who have their pride to play for.”

“The US Eagles playing at home will be dangerous, they have a lot to prove to their family and fans.”

“Canada was good in Wellington, they like Kenya have improved a lot in the Series.”

Fiji faces USA at 8:44am on Sunday in their first game, Canada at 11:50am and their last pool game is against South Africa at 4:14pm.

“They are on a high because of last weekends win but this should not cloud them from the danger that lurks ahead. A lot of teams are out for revenge following last weekend’s tournament,” Savou added.
