Navua, Lautoka tipped for main awards
February 06, 2010

The top two districts of 2009 season, Navua and Lautoka are expected to walk away with the main awards during the Fiji Football Association awards function tonight in Suva.

IDC, Fiji FACT and NCC champs Navua is set to win the Junior Footballer of the Year, Fair Play and Coach of the Year award.

While there will be stiff competition to the southerners from Lautoka for the Player of the Year, Administrator of the Year, Team of the Year and Popular Footballer of the Year award which will be determined via public voting.

University of the South Pacific law student Shonal Sharma is tipped to win the Junior Footballer of the Year award. The Navua striker also represented Fiji Beach Soccer team in the Oceania Playoff in Tahiti.

Navua’s inspirational captain Pene Erenio will have no competition in the Fair Play category since he is the lone nominee while Coach Gurjit Singh holds the edge of the other nominees for the Coach of the Year award.

Fiji Futsal and Beach Soccer captain Kamal Hassan of Lautoka and Navua goalie Benaminio Mateinaqara are top choices for the Player of the Year award and it will be interesting to see who walks away with the prestigious award.

Like players, the Navua and Lautoka soccer bosses will also battle it out for the Administrator of the Year award. Both presidents led their associations well in 2009 and both have won this award previously.

Lautoka referee Dina Mani Mudaliar and Labasa women’s player Eni Tinai are confirmed recipients of the Referee of the Year and Women’s Footballer of the Year awards since they have no other nominations in their respective categories.

The Air Pacific Fiji FA Awards night commences at 7pm at the Noble House and Fiji Swimming Federation president Dennis Miller will be the chief guest.
