Man mountain backs 7s campaign in Dubai December 01, 2009
Former Fiji 7s skipper Semisi Naevo believes in Iliesa Tanivula and his team as they countdown to the kick off of the 2009/10 IRB World 7s Series in Dubai this weekend.
The towering Japan-based player nick named the ‘man mountain’ by international sevens commentators for his feats at international tournaments has been following the team’s preparation and progress closely and says he is excited to see them take to the field in the Dubai 7s.
“This is one of the best prepared teams to go into the IRB Series. I believe they have had a lot of international exposure and this first leg team has got nothing but experience,” Naevo said.
“I don’t know about Fiji but I am really looking forward to the Dubai 7s. It’s good to see Leps (Lepani Nabuliwaqa) and William (Ryder) back in the team.”
Naevo who last played for Fiji in last year’s World Cup has warned the Fiji team not to take any of their opponents lightly.
Fiji leads Pool B with Scotland, Zimbabwe, Pacific island neighbours Samoa and hosts Dubai.
“Zimbabwe and Scotland will give Fiji a good run for their money. These teams are always brushed off in the Series but they always surprise the bigger teams.”
“Samoa is our biggest threats.”
Fiji kicks off they’re Dubai 7s campaign against Scotland at 6:20pm on Friday.
“I wish them all the best, the key is to work together as a unit and remain calm under pressure. Discipline is a big part of the win,” Naevo added.
