Fijians arrive in Sri Lanka for 7s tourney November 23, 2009
The Fiji sevens team heading for the opening leg of the International Rugby Board’s Sevens World Series in Dubai next week has touched down in Sri Lanka today ahead of a warm up meet this weekend.
The team with the likes of sevens exponents in Lepani Nabuliwaqa, William Ryder, captain Emosi Vucago and veteran forward Setefano Cakau will use this weekend’s Carlton Sri Lankan Sevens Tournament as a build up to next week’s season opener in Dubai.
The Carlton Sevens has been classified as an Asian region Sevens series contested by Japan, Kazakhstan, Iran, Taiwan, Thailand, Jordan, China, Malaysia, Brunei, South Korea, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Apart from the Asian contest, an exhibition tournament is also scheduled to be played on Saturday and Sunday.
The Iliesa Tanivula coached side will be up against the likes of invitational sides in New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, Samoa and Waisale Serevi’s Papua New Guinea side.
Japan the Cup favorites of the Asian contest are also scheduled to arrive later today.
