Defending champion, Southern Forest Combine of Navua is wary of the two star studded Ba clubs that will be participating in the 2009 National Club Championship finals in Nausori this weekend.
The Gurjit Singh coached club which comprises of Navua players that hoisted the IDC trophy in Nadi recently has been preparing thoroughly for its title defence and see their opponents from Ba as the major threats.
Combine is drawn in Pool 2 of the finals with Wailailai and senior division clubs; Service Sports from Taveuni and Lincoln Sports from Tailevu Naitasiri.
According to Singh, the battle in the finals will be between his club, Ba’s 4R Electrical, Wailailai Youth and Samabula of Suva.
“We are anticipating a tough finals as the Ba clubs along with Samabula are laced with districts players and will be very strong in the final.”
“Both the Ba clubs recorded big wins in the west playoff and Samabula was also very impressive so there will indeed be some very interesting competition this weekend in both the pools.”
“Combine will not underestimate the two premier division clubs in our pool as both the clubs have recorded impressive results in their respective zones to qualify for the final and will be well prepared to upset the big guns.”
“Lincoln despite losing to us in the playoff came back strongly to send some top teams out of the qualifiers so we can expect them to be very strong and the same goes for the Taveuni club.”
“We are preparing well for our title defence and will just take one game at a time and see how things work for the club.”
“There are no major injuries to the team and the players are just raring to go.”
“We will miss Pita Bolaitoga, Salesh Kumar and Lorima Dau who are all away overseas and tied up with club commitments but have enough players in the squad to cover for them” Singh concluded.
