Samabula eyes NCC title
November 20, 2009

Top Suva club, Samabula Sports is confident about their chances in the National Club Championship finals this weekend in Nausori.

The Quality Aluminum sponsored side which is laced with Suva district reps topped Pool 2 in the southern playoff last weekend and will look to achieve a similar feat in pool play and the eliminations this weekend.

Club president and Suva soccer vice president Anup Kumar said the team has been preparing well and will travel to Ratu Cakobau Park with the aim to win the title.

“The players are showing a lot of commitment in training with the experienced players leading by example.”

“We have the experience and depth in the team and should be able to top our pool and win the semifinal and final also.”

“We made a shaky start in the playoff but managed to find our form from the second match and will be out to better our performance and goal scoring in the finals.”

“We are grouped with tough teams like 4R Electrical, Jolly Brothers whom we beat in the playoff and Downtown and will not be taking any of them lightly as all teams will be aiming to win the title.” Kumar added.

Veteran goalie Ilimeleki Tukai leads the experienced Samabula outfit which also has the likes of Henry Dyer, Krishna Sami, Esava Naqeleca, Sandeep Nair, Joseph Mishra, Dinesh Mudaliar, Arvin Pratap, Leone Damudamu, Maciu Tuilau and Akariva Dau.

Samabula opens its campaign against Jolly Brothers of Navua at 6.15pm today.
