Sharma to remain Navua soccer president
November 20, 2009

Newly elected Fiji Football Association vice president Anil Sharma will continue to serve as Navua Football president in the new soccer season.

This comes after his resignation from Navua presidency was not accepted by Fiji FA since the statute of the parent body which was recently amended allows a person to serve both his district and the national body at the same time.

Fiji FA chief executive officer Bob Kumar confirmed that Sharma has been given the chance to run the affairs of both Navua and Fiji Football Association.

“We had amended our statute to be in line with FIFA to allow persons who are attached to a club or a district to also serve the national body at the same time.”

“There are a lot of top FIFA officials that are also serving as sitting officials in their respective countries and we do not see any reason why our own officials cannot serve their clubs and districts at the same time.”

“Anil had given in his resignation but after consultations, he has agreed to continue as the president of Navua and will at the same time serve as our vice president” said Kumar.

Meanwhile, Sharma has been appointed the new national team director and chairman of the national teams.

The appointment was made during the Board of Control meeting of Fiji FA in Suva over the weekend.

In other major appointments, senior vice president Dr Hari Kewal is the new National League Board chairman while Rajesh Patel takes over the Youth Board chairmanship.

Faiyaz Ali is the chairman of the referees committee while Susan Wise remains the director of Womens football.
