Fiji 7s coach Iliesa Tanivula will still be on a lookout for local talent to boost Fiji’s campaign in the 2009/2010 IRB World 7s Series despite the list of contracted players drawn up for this season.
The Fiji Rugby Union has contracted 20 sevens players where Tanivula and will choose from for the Series.
“Those are the players we will be looking at for selection this season into the Fiji team, these boys have been working hard and putting in a lot in their training. It is only fair that they are first choice for selection,” Tanivula said.
“However the selectors always have an eye out for talent. There are a number of local 7s tournaments around the country and there are bound to be players that will impress.”
Tanivula stressed that despite bringing in new players to join the squad, it was the contracted players that would be considered first.
“The contracted players will always get the nod first. That is why we have drawn up their contracts, especially for this purpose.”
Fiji kicks off the Series in Dubai on December 4 and in George a week later.
Tanivula was optimistic they would have a good outing and asked for support from the public.
“They need us as much we as we need them, we cannot go out there and play without they’re support. All we ask is that Fiji and our fans remember us in their prayers, in turn we promise to do our best.”
