Walker’s pay to be decided at council meet November 13, 2009
Netball Fiji executives will decide whether to pay sacked coach Melissa Walker during their Council meeting on Saturday.
NF secretary Patricia Rokoua has brushed aside the claims made by the former NPC saying that she was owed $40,000 however; Rokoua says that the association is only concerned about her payment before her termination and not after the South African Tour in July.
“We terminated Walker straight after the Tour and the people should understand we have nothing to do with her after the government reinstated her,” Rokoua said.
Walker said she was not informed about the Council meeting however, she has urged the NF executives to pay her off.
“There was no corresponded from the executives to inform me about the Council meeting this Saturday. By the way, Im not aware of the meeting however, I just want them to pay off.”
Meanwhile, the Director of Immigration Nemani Vuniwaqa says that the department was only following protocol issuing a notice for Walker to leave within seven days.
However, Vuniwaqa says that Walker can stay in the country provided that she requests it in writing.
“I haven’t been informed that she is required in the country for a court hearing against Netball Fiji at the end of this month,” Vuniwaqa said.
“We’ve advised her to write formally to the Immigration department stating the reason why they want to extend their stay. We have also advised her that we can give her temporary residence permit until the court case is over only if she writes a letter.”
Walker believes Netball Fiji, which terminated her contract due to lack of money, is trying to boot her out of the country to avoid paying a salary owed to her. Fijilive
