Fiji men’s hockey anticipate good finish November 13, 2009
Fiji Hockey Men’s team coach Hector Smith is confident that Fiji will improve its performance during the 2009 Oceania Pacific Cup next month.
After finishing in the top three to Australia and New Zealand last year, Smith remains optimistic that Fiji will be in for a good outing.
“We’ve been preparing for the Pacific Cup since July and we’ve selected a squad in August after a series of trials,” Smith said.
“Our aim is to play in the final and win and this is going to be a challenge. We’ve been breaking down our build up from skills and conditioning to mental toughness and I’m satisfied with what we have without any doubt about our performance.”
Smith has urged all supporters to turn out in number as they will be out to do their best for Fiji.
“The team is eager to show what they have and also to pit their skills against some very professional hockey players. We’re playing some very big hockey clubs from Australia and New Zealand but our game against Samoa and Papua New Guinea is regarded as an international test match.”
Fiji will be represented by the national team and a President's XI.
The Oceania Pacific Hockey Cup will be held at the National Hockey Centre in Laucala from December 5 – 12.
