Fiji to host 2011 Golden Oldies World Netball Festival November 09, 2009
Former Netball Fiji coach Vilimaina Davu will be an official ambassador at the New Zealand Golden Oldies World Netball Festival to be held in Nadi next year.
The event is a major score, not only in sports but also the tourism industry, after Tourism Fiji succeeded in its bid to host the event at the Denarau Golf and Racquets Club in Nadi.
Davu has represented both Fiji and New Zealand in netball, scoring 100 international tests.
Tourism Fiji Regional Director Sala Toganivalu said the national tourist office was delighted to be associated with the netball festival and particularly proud to be hosting the prestigious international event for the second time since 1996.
“This major sporting event represents a major win for us both on and off the netball court,” Toganivalu said after the official launch of the event in Queensland, Australia last Thursday.
“Not only does it enable us to demonstrate our prowess in a very high profile sporting arena. Just as importantly the staging of the festival allows us to showcase and stimulate interest in Fiji as a holiday destination to the spectators and the international media covering the event.”
Toganivalu added that Fiji has been a successful host for the Golden Oldies Festival, having hosted Hockey in 1991 and Netball in 1996. She believes 2011 will be no less popular.
