A total of twenty clubs will participate in the 2009 National Club Championship playoff which will be played this weekend at three different venues.
Ten southern, eight western and two northern clubs have been nominated and will be in action in their various zonal playoffs.
Fiji FA chief executive officer Bob Kumar said all nominations have been received and they are looking forward to conducting the pool draws of the playoff tomorrow.
“Twenty clubs are confirmed for the playoffs and we will conduct the pool draws for each zone on Monday afternoon at the Fiji FA headquarters in Suva.”
“While its encouraging to see some senior division clubs in the playoff, it is very disappointing at the same time to note that two super premier districts namely Tavua and Labasa not been represented as they failed to conduct their local league competitions effectively.”
“As stated earlier, those districts that did not complete their domestic competition on time will have to face the parent body and give reasons for their late or non completion of the matches.”
“We have always emphasized the importance of club competition to the districts and the success of the big districts that are represented in the NCC is certainly attributed to the success of their respective clubs in their local competition” said Kumar.
In the southern division, Tailevu Naitasiri is represented by Lincoln sports and Lokia while Rewa will be represented by Lokia United and Navasa.
NTC and Speed Wing will represent Nasinu while Samabula and Police will carry Suva’s hopes.
Defending champion Southern Forest Combine and Jolly Brothers are representing Navua.
Downtown and Maro United make up the Nadroga representatives while Nalovo and Gandhi Sports will represent Nadi.
Last season’s losing finalist, GM United and Shop Save Blues who both are laced with Lautoka district reps will fly the Sugar City flag.
Ba will be represented by Wailailai Youth and 4R Electrical, teams which both have the services of Ba district reps.
The northern division clubs include Katch-a-fire from Savusavu and Service from Dreketi.
Four southern, three western and one northern club will selected for the final of the NCC after the playoff this weekend.
The playoffs will be held at Bidesi and Buckhurst Park (southern), Lawaqa Park (western) and Ganilau Park (northern) on Saturday and Sunday with the finals to be held at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori in a fortnight’s time.
